Currently available Windows Phone handsets won’t receive an update to the Windows Phone 8 operating system, but will get a software update of their own, called Windows Phone 7.8.
Microsoft has already unveiled some details on this platform upgrade, and said that the new Start Screen in Windows Phone 8 will be included in it.
However, it appears that this won’t be the only new feature that Windows Phone 7.8 will arrive on shelves with, but that some other enhancements will also be included into the mix.
The move was confirmed at Tech Ed in New Zealand, Neowin reports, but no further info on the matter has been provided for the time being.
The update is expected to arrive on devices in the coming months, most probably around the same time with the release of Windows Phone 8.
