Microsoft sells 600m Windows 7 licenses since October 2009

Windows 7 logoMicrosoft has sold over 600 million Windows 7 licenses. Steven Guggenheimer, corporate vice president of the OEM division at Microsoft, claimed the milestone during his speech at Computex 2012, while demonstrating new Windows 7-based devices and explaining the Windows Upgrade Offer for Windows 8, due later this year.

After its launch in October 2009, it took eight months to reach 150 million sales, with the 400 million milestone hit in July of last year. It was also claimed that Windows 7 is running on more than 39 percent of Internet-connected devices worldwide, although it was not said how many were corporate users as opposed to home computers. The Windows Upgrade Offer was given a bit more detail, with the announcement of a dedicated website containing further information.

While on stage, Guggenheimer also showed off a 2012 Ford Focus to highlight automotive computing, and announced the second Community Technology Preview of Windows Embedded Standard 8, giving the chance for OEMs to evaluate Windows 8 technology in their systems.

Microsoft suffered a setback last month in their patents case with Motorola, following a German court banning sales of Xbox 360 consoles and Windows 7 in the country.
