Blizzard officially announces World of Warcraft Classic server

Blizzard logoBlizzard’s MMORPG World of Warcraft is a pretty old game, but yet it seems to be chugging along just fine. However it looks like in an attempt to try and bring back old players into the game, Blizzard at BlizzCon 2017 over the weekend has officially announced the World of Warcraft Classic server.

Details of the server are a bit scarce at this point in time as Blizzard did state that they’ll only be sharing more information at a later date, but basically this will be a vanilla World of Warcraft experience that some in the community have been clamoring for, and one that Blizzard appears to be finally delivering.

For those unfamiliar with the who drama, back in 2016 a fan-run vanilla World of Warcraft server was shut down by Blizzard due to obvious legal reasons. However after petitioning for it, Blizzard agreed to meet with the developers to discuss the idea of making it official, but it seems like nothing happened after the meeting, leading many (including us) to believe that plans for it had been shelved.

Blizzard did note at that time that setting up specific vanilla servers could be a rather complex process, and of course there needs to be consideration for whether or not such servers would be worth their time and resources. The good news is that the announcement of the Classic server does indicate that Blizzard listens to their fans, so we guess it’s only a matter of time before it is officially launched.
