Samsung will announce new Internet of things operating system

Samsung logoSamsung has revealed that it’s working on a new operating system for the Internet of Things. It hasn’t revealed any details about the new operating system but has confirmed that it’s going to be announced next month at the Samsung Developer Conference which takes place in San Francisco. The new OS will allow Samsung to play a bigger role in the IoT market and shape how multiple smart connected objects in the house work with each other as well as with other devices.

Samsung hasn’t even revealed what it’s new operating system for Internet of Things will be called. However, it did confirm that the OS will be open source. It will introduce the OS at a session at the SDC in San Francisco next month.

According to the session agenda, “Samsung will announce our new, open-source IoT real-time operating system (RTOS), which has a wide scope of features while maintaining a lightweight and efficient footprint.”

That’s all the company has said about the new OS for now and it’s unlikely that Samsung will unveil any major details about the OS given that Samsung Developer Conference is less than a month away.

Samsung already has a presence in the IoT market. It has an entire lineup of SmartThings connected devices and even provides Artik boards that enable developers to build smart devices. An OS will fit in nicely with its ambitions of becoming a market leader in the Internet of Things.
