iOS 9 could bring split-screen multitasking to the iPad

Apple logoLast year there were rumors that with iOS 8, Apple will finally introduce split-screen multitasking to the iPad. Given the tablet’s large display, it certainly sounded like a feature that would make a lot of sense. However apparently the feature was not polished enough to debut in iOS 8, but now according to the folks at 9to5Mac, they believe that the feature is finally ready.

WWDC 2015 will be coming up in early June and at the event, Apple is expected to offer up some details on their upcoming iOS 9 update, and split-screen multitasking is one of the features rumored to make its debut. The idea will be similar to other split-screen multitasking features found on other devices where users can run apps side by side and operate them simultaneously.

According to their sources, users can choose to run apps in 1/2, 1/3, or 2/3 views depending on the app in question. Users can also choose to multitask multiple apps, or choose to multitask with a single app, like display two different tabs at once in Safari or different documents on Pages to compare them side by side, a handy feature for users who want to make quick references.

However their sources warn them that there is still a chance that the feature might be pulled before next month’s conference. Apparently there is still quite a bit of work left to be done to bring it to the same level as other features that will make its debut in iOS 9 beta, but here’s hoping that we will get to see it anyway.
