Viber just updated its iOS and Android apps with one of the features that most of its users have been desperately craving for – video calls on mobile devices. This means that you can now procure video calls with your Viber contacts, making the messenger a fiercer competitor to Skype – one of the more popular services that allowed video calls on mobile devices. Similar to Skype, Viber allows you to transfer the video calls in question between your mobile device and the desktop client of the messaging service.
Apart from receiving this pretty substantial functionality, Viber for both iOS and Android has been treated to an interface overhaul. It now has a different, see-through icon set, as well as slightly rounded contact thumbnails. The chat bubbles look slightly different as well. Another new feature allows Viber's fans to create and send brief video messages, which comprise of an animated avatar and the user's own voice. You can also quickly add a contact in the app by scanning a QR code or by simply adding their phone number in Viber. Oh, and the app is now available in several new languages – Bulgarian, Serbian, and Persian.
The update is rolling out as we speak, so you might have to wait a little before you get it.
