Skype chat notifications updated, will only display on active device

Skype logoMicrosoft has updated the way Skype handles some of its notifications for multiple devices. As part of wider ongoing effort to improve the way Skype synchronizes messages between clients on different devices and systems, the Active Endpoint feature will only deliver chat notifications to the device currently being used, rather than to all logged-in devices.

The Skype Blog advises that even though notifications will no longer pop-up when a single device is deemed to be the active client, all instances of the service will continue to update the chat history, allowing for conversations to flow between clients. "The moment you stop actively using Skype on any device, all devices will receive notifications again to make sure you never miss anything important," writes the blog. "Call notifications are still sent to all devices, so you can answer on whichever gadget you prefer, not just the one you're closest to."

The update is being rolled out to users gradually over the next few weeks, with Microsoft advising users to keep all versions of Skype up to date.
