Skype Translator breaks the barrier between different languages

Skype logoEarlier this year, Microsoft announced “Skype Translator”, a ground breaking feature which would allow two people speaking in different languages to have audio conversations. At the company’s Worldwide Partner Conference event, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced a development to that project -- Skype Translator now facilitates video conferencing as well.

On stage, a Microsoft executive demonstrated the feature by speaking to a German person through a Skype Video call in front of 16,000 people and the CEO. The demonstration showed real-time audio translation from English to German, and vice versa.

Nadella hopes that the preview of this technology will be available by the end of this year. Though he didn’t mention which languages the preview will initially support. Nadella has always emphasized on bringing technology to more hands. "We will reinvent productivity to empower every person and every organization on the planet to do more and achieve more," he said.

Our friends at Neowin were able to record the video, for those who missed the live stream of the event earlier today. You can watch the video below.
