Windows XP SP3 still a top download on torrent sites

Windows XP logoWindows XP is no longer receiving updates and security patches from Microsoft, but it's pretty clear that not everyone is ready to give up on it.

While statistics show that Windows XP is still powering some 25 percent of desktops worldwide, Windows XP with Service Pack 3 remains one of the most downloaded items on torrent websites.

Even though Windows XP support officially came to an end earlier this year, Microsoft doesn't want users to run pirated copies of the operating system, so the software can still be activated when installing a new copy.

But thousands of users who access torrent websites on a regular basis are downloading Windows XP with Service Pack 3 as we speak and, in most of the cases, the downloaded files also include key generators and cracks that allow them to use the operating system without any limitation.

While we're not going to disclose any links or names of websites where you can find Windows XP with SP3, we can tell you that on one website alone we counted nearly 2,000 people who were downloading copies of the operating system uploaded in the last seven days.

It's hard to find a reason why so many people are getting Windows XP these days, but one thing is for sure: Microsoft clearly needs to roll out an operating system that excels in every aspect in order to convince everyone to upgrade once and for all.
