Windows Phone 8.1 rumored to arrive in April

Windows Phone logoFor the most part, most companies release major updates to their software on a yearly basis. Apple has done that, Google has done that, and this year it is speculated that Microsoft will do that too with Windows Phone 8.1 which is said to add a host of new features and improvements to the company’s smartphone operating system. However the question is when might we be able to expect the update to be released? Well according to Mary Jo Foley of ZDNet, it seems that we might be able to expect Windows Phone 8.1 in the later part of April, where the update is expected to RTM just before BUILD 2014 which takes place on the 2nd of April, suggesting that its release will happen shortly after.

The extent of the Windows Phone 8.1 update remains unknown for now, but some rumored features of the update includes a new notification center and the inclusion of a new voice assistant, amongst other features like a possible revamped Xbox Games hub. The voice assistant is a particularly interesting rumor as it has been suggested that it will be like the Moto X in the sense that it will be always listening, meaning that smartphone owners will not have to physically activate/unlock their phone in order to use it. In any case we’ll be taking this news with a grain of salt for now, but we’ll definitely keep our eyes peeled for more information. In the meantime who’s excited for Windows Phone 8.1?
