The supporters of the Tizen OS are expected to showcase their devices running the OS Feb. 23 in Barcelona, the day before Mobile World Congress opens in the Spanish city.
The Tizen Association, which includes the supporters of Tizen OS - Samsung Electronics, Intel and more - sent out invitations by email Wednesday for the February event. The invitation is promising "an exclusive sneak preview of the newest Tizen devices as well as an opportunity to learn about the major milestones that the Tizen project has hit since last year's event."
The release of the first smartphone running on Tizen has been delayed until next year.
Samsung, DoCoMo and Orange are expected to offer the first mobile devices based on the OS.
Tizen, Firefox OS, Sailfish and Ubuntu, are all trying to compete with Android and iOS.
Besides smartphones, the Tizen OS may finally find its way to printers, cameras and smart TVs.
