Xbox Music: Free Music for Windows 8 users

Microsoft logoMicrosoft announced the release of its Xbox Music service earlier today, but the company has also confirmed that this product would be released on Windows 8 and Windows RT Pcs and tablets on October 26.

Besides the top feature that will allow users to listen to free music online, Xbox Music will also sport purchase options to buy songs and albums.

“The launch of Xbox Music is a milestone in simplifying digital music on every type of device and on a global scale,” said Don Mattrick, president of the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft.

“We’re breaking down the walls that fracture your music experiences today to ensure that music is better and integrated across the screens that you care about most — your tablet, PC, phone and TV,” he added.

The service will initially be rolled out for Xbox 360 owners starting today, while Windows 8 and Windows RT users should get it after the public launch of the new operating system on October 26.

Xbox Music provides access to more than 30 million songs from all over the world, according to figures released by Microsoft, and also comprises the so-called “Music Store” to let users purchase their favorite albums.

Starting next year, the service will be upgraded with cloud storage, a brand new feature that will enable subscribers to add content to their personal Xbox Music collection.

“Discovering and enjoying free music on Windows 8 and Windows RT is as easy as typing an artist or song name and hitting “play” — songs are instantly available to stream and for you to create an unlimited amount of playlists,” Microsoft said.
