Twitter has officially launched its self-service advertising program targeting small businesses. The company has begun offering these businesses access to its Promoted Tweets and Promoted Accounts programs. With these, companies in this market segment can create product awareness without having to make special content.
Promoted Accounts tracks current followers and identifies other non-followers with similar characteristics. Twitter then recommends the business to these individuals by putting them in their "Who to follow" section. Promoted Tweets identifies which tweets of the business are the most engaging, and any company successful enough to reach that performance level is promoted in Twitter's "Most Popular" section.
Businesses can select where to promote themselves geographically. They also can decide how much to sped promoting themselves on a daily basis or limit the costs per follower or engagement.
In support of the launch, American Express is offering $100 in free Twitter advertising to the first 10,000 eligible card members and merchants who sign up.
