It seems like there’s already plenty of information on Google Maps, but the Internet company doesn’t believe it to be so, so it has decided to add even more to the pile.
This time around, it’s something that may make it even more money, namely some ads for the nearby stores. These only appear when you’re searching for them, so the addition isn’t too intrusive and the ads may even come in handy in this occasion.
“Recently, we began showing search results for places like restaurants and hotels in a list view below the search box for easier browsing. Today, we're extending this experience to ads on Google Maps and Google Maps for Mobile to make it faster and easier for users to view and connect with the businesses that are most relevant to them,” Google announced.
Users may even call the numbers if any are displayed, alongside other type of information such as ratings, store hours and Street View imagery of a business.
Overall, the ads shouldn’t really damage your experience on Google Maps too much, and as pointed above, they may even be useful. While support for this type of ads is widespread, it is likely that it’s going to be a while before more shops start adopting the feature.
