Nokia rumored to launch Treasure Tag key finder accessory within weeks

Nokia logoNokia is making an accessory for its Lumia device range that will help users find keys or other attached objects, according to a report. The "Treasure Tag," claimed to be launching in the next few weeks, will use a combination of NFC for initial pairing and Bluetooth signals to track the location of the tag in relation to the smartphone.

Nokia rumored to launch Treasure Tag key finder accessory within weeks

Sources of The Verge confirmed the Treasure Tag accessory plans, which is said will ship with a loop strap for attaching it to a set of keys. By using an app on the Windows Phone device, the Treasure Tag can be located on a map or through a Nokia LiveSight augmented view. When close enough, the tag can be set to make a sound via the app.

The tag is said to be the first to use the Lumia's Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy support, available as part of the incoming Amber update, and will help the device achieve its six-month always-on battery life.

Though it is believed that Nokia will be creating other similar devices, it is not clear exactly when the Treasure Tag will be released, nor its cost at launch.
