Feb 20 Sony press event likely to debut Playstation 4

Sony logoSony is inviting journalists and investors to an event on February 20, with a teaser video implying that attendees will "see the future." The event is called the "Playstation Meeting 2013," predating Sony's Destination PlayStation event that begins on February 25. The video clearly shows the circle, square, triangle, and X found on the PlayStation controller, and has a backdrop of the same blue often found on PlayStation packaging. The website associated with the video lists the time of the reveal at 6PM ET.

The first iteration of the PlayStation 3 hardware was released in very limited quantities on November 11, 2006 in Japan, with a US release shortly thereafter. The new console is said to be based on AMD's quad-core A8-3850 processor, likely at 2.9GHz, and the DirectX 11 Radeon HD 7670 graphics coprocessor -- similar to rumored specifications for the next generation XBox.

Two weeks ago, the company began selling an all-white version of the PlayStation 3 along with a collection of game classics and a white controller for $300. In November of last year, game-makers began receiving development kits for the PlayStation 4, the documentation for which suggested an A10-based CPU/GPU combination and a 256GB hard drive as "standard."
