Micron launches Crucial M500 SSDs, DDR4 this year

Micron logoMicron Technology has announced the "Crucial M500" series of SSDs, based on new SSD 20nm NAND. The company also announced plans to release DDR4 memory modules in late 2013.

The successor of the 25nm Crucial m4 series of SSDs, the Crucial M500 will most probably based on the Amrvell 88SS9187 controller with a customized firmware ny Micron, although not officially confirmed.

The M500 SSD utilizes Micron's 20-nanometer (nm) multilevel cell (MLC) NAND flash to achieve terabyte-class capacity and enable a new level of SSD price competitiveness; the company says its 960GB Crucial M500 SSD will be initially priced under $600.

Micron DDR4

The drives will be available in three form factors - 2.5-inch / 7mm, M.2 SSD modules and mSATA. The M.2 SSD module is a new form factor the size of a stick of gum, designed for ultrathin on-the-go computing. Capacities will range from 120-960GB.
