Samsung Windows Phone pricing, specs leak

Samsung logoPricing and specification details for Samsung's forthcoming Windows Phone 8 handsets have apparently leaked, showing that the two devices will come in between $284 and $486 at launch. The new information, passed on to SamMobile by an anonymous source, shows that the South Korean manufacturer is looking to release both a mid-range and a higher end model running Microsoft's new mobile operating system. The two handsets are set for release in the last quarter of this year, though no specific date has been set.

The leak details both the GT-I8370 Omnia, codenamed Marco, and the GT-I8750, codenamed Odyssey. The Marco model will sport a four-inch WVGA Super Amoled display with a dual-core Krait 1.5GHz processor inside. It will have 8GB of internal storage, expandable with a microSD card. This mid-range model will have a 5MP rear camera and a 1.9MP front-facing camera. It is expected to sell for between $284 and $365.

The Odyssey model will have a 4.8-inch HD Super Amoled display and a dual-core 1.5GHz Krait processor inside. Its 8MP rear camera will be accompanied by a 1.9MP front-facing camera, and its 16GB or 32GB of internal storage will also be expandable with a microSD card. The Odyssey model is expected to retail for between $405 and $486.

The existence of the two WP8 phones was revealed at the end of last month in the course of the ongoing court battle between Samsung and Apple. Documents filed by Samsung revealed the electronics maker's plans to address the Windows Phone 8. Those same documents show that Samsung plans to market the Odyssey as an "iconic smartphone" much in the same vein as Samsung's Galaxy S line of flagship models.
