Sony prepping Xperia tablet for Sept launch

Sony logoSony is reportedly planning to build on its increasingly strong "Xperia" brand in its next foray into the tablet market.

This appears to be the case, at least, based on (allegedly) leaked documents about the company's next big leap now that it has its own mobile electronics division.

Sony already has a few tablets on the market, and they go by names like the Sony Tablet S and the Sony Tablet P, but it looks like its next one will be even more powerful and will carry the full weight of the Xperia name.

Sony's Xperia brand has grown in popularity ever since it bought out fellow joint venture partner Ericsson and decided to focus on creating mobile products that could integrate tightly with its other products and services.

As a result, yes, the Xperia Tablet appears to be Playstation Certified, meaning users will be able to play exclusive games from the Playstation Network on it.

According to the leaked info, the Xperia Tablet will have a 9.4-inch, 1280x800 display, with a thinner profile than Sony's previous tablets.

In addition, it will boast an Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor, an 8-megapixel rear camera and 1-megapixel front camera, and up to 64 GB of storage.

The device is expected to be powered by Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich or Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, when it launches later this year for a reported $399.
