Kinect system Kinsight can track all items in your house

Microsoft logoOh, the wonders of Microsofts Kinect technology. Last month, we told about the space docking system that uses Kinect technology to align a nanosatellite. Early this week, we also wrote about a Kinect technology used in vascular surgery. Well, if you think that Kinect is cool, theres more to that. Have you imagined equipping your house with Kinect sensors so that you can keep track of all your things down to the smallest detail? Two computer scientists from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville were able to develop a system called Kinsight using Kinect technology to record specific locations of household items such as keys, wallet, mobile phones and remote controls.

Kinect system Kinsight can track all items in your house

Shahriar Nirjon and John Stankovic said that Kinsight works by tracking people and the objects they interact with. To do that, objects in the house, for example, will have to be manually tagged in order for it to be searchable in the system. New Scientist explains that every object is compared to Kinsights database and that the system can locate fist-sized objects with an accuracy of 13 centimetres. Creators Nirjon and Stankovic said that they are planning to develop a smartphone app for Kinsight in the future. Wed definitely love to see more of Kinsights capabilities.
