Nvidia and TSMC ship one billionth GeForce GPU, congratulate themselves

NVIDIA logoLong-time partners Nvidia and TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.) have proudly announced that they have now shipped their one billionth GeForce graphics processor. This milestone required 12 years to be reached and covers five DirectX generations.

"Since inventing the GPU more than a decade ago, Nvidia has driven innovation in these processors at a rate virtually unmatched in the technology industry," said Jen-Hsun Huang, president and chief executive officer, Nvidia. "With our close partnership with TSMC, the complexity of these devices has increased more than 1000 times, enabling enormous progress in computers ranging from handhelds and PCs to workstations and data centers."

The GeForce family debuted with the DirectX 7-supporting, NV10-powered GeForce 256 (SDR) in August 1999 and has since found its way into homes of millions of gamers.
