16GB Galaxy S5 will come with 10.7GB of storage after all

Samsung logoAs you might recall just last week, there were reports that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S5’s ROM might take up more space than many users would have liked. In fact the 16GB model was found to have around 8GB of space left after everything had been installed.

Granted that we never truly get the full storage, using 50% for OS installation seems a little excessive, no? Well it turns out that it might not be the case. In fact according to a new report, it seems that the Galaxy S5 will have around 10.7GB of space left when it is taken fresh out of the box.

So what’s with the discrepancy in storage availability? Apparently it turns out that 2.33GB of the storage was used to install demos that were used during MWC 2014 in Barcelona, so take that out of the equation and Galaxy S5 owners will have slightly more space left on their phones compared to before.

Of course 10.7GB is hardly ideal either, since phones like the Nexus 5 come with 12.16GB of storage after installs, but then again it is stock Android, so that might explain why it uses less storage compared to the Galaxy S5 with its UI and its extra features.

It should be noted that the Galaxy S5 does support microSD card storage up to 128GB, so there’s always that option to consider if you find that 10.7GB is not enough for all your photos, videos, music, and apps.
