Rumors suggest Samsung Galaxy S5 launch on February 23

Samsung logoSamsung may unveil the Galaxy S5 smartphone on February 23rd, the day before Mobile World Congress opens, according to a rumor. The launch is claimed to be taking place at 6pm local time in Barcelona, Spain, as part of a Samsung Unpacked event, which could also be the venue for the debut of Samsung's updated mobile user interface, among other devices.

The event details come via Twitter through Eldar Murtazin, an editor for Russian blog Mobile-Review. Though the information comes with no supporting imagery or other evidence, Murtazin is said by Unwired View to have correctly pinpointed the launch of the Galaxy S4 last year. The Twitter message also claims the price of the Galaxy S5 will be the same as its predecessor, that the smartphone will ship at the end of April, and that specifications for the device have already been released.

Previous rumors of the Galaxy S5 suggest it could have a 5.2-inch 2,560x1,440-resolution display, a plastic or metal casing, a 16-megapixel or 20-megapixel rear camera, and either 3GB or 4GB of RAM, though more outlandish suggestions include an iris scanner and a fingerprint reader.
