Next-Gen Consoles Wont Be Drastically Better Than Wii U

Nintendo logoNintendo President Satoru Iwata has talked about the companys upcoming Wii U and has revealed that, even when next- generation consoles like the PlayStation 4 or Xbox 720 will appear, there wont be a noticeable different in terms of graphics between them and the Wii U.

Nintendo is finally getting ready to debut the Wii U home console later this year but, in the meantime, rivals like Sony or Microsoft are putting the finishing touches on their next-generation platforms, in the form of the oft-rumored PlayStation 4 and Xbox 720, respectively.

Considering the Wii U is designed specifically to rival the current PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360, the arrival of new platforms would leave the Nintendo console at a disadvantage.

The companys President, Satoru Iwata, doesnt think this is accurate, as the Wii U will deliver a quality experience.

"We cannot promise that the Wii U will never be excluded from multiplatform software for eternity, but we can at least assure you that the Wii U will not have such a big difference as the Wii had in comparison to how, on other platforms, developers could expect very different graphic capabilities of generating HD-applicable high-resolution graphics," Iwata said.

The consoles power will also help it remain relevant once new consoles are released by the likes of Sony or Microsoft, according to the executive.

"Other companies might launch a next-generation console with more power, but we don't necessarily think that the difference between the Wii U and such console will be as drastic as what you felt it was between the Wii and the other consoles because there will be fewer and fewer differentiators in graphics," he added.

As you can see, Nintendo is quite confident in its upcoming Wii U, even if rivals soon take things up a notch with the release of all-new consoles next year or at the beginning of 2014.
