Microsoft vet booted after talk about Nokia Windows Phone

Microsoft logoMicrosoft has likely forced out one of its program managers for discussing details of Nokia's first Windows Phone. Web platform lead Joe Marini in a series of Twitter updates didn't provide device details but did describe his subjective experiences. Rating it an eight out of ten, Marini said the phone was one of the "slickest-looking" Nokia phones yet and had a "solid feel, good camera, [and a] responsive UI."

His only knocks may have been due to lighting with his camera shots and a desire for a bigger screen. The Sea Ray is believed to have a 3.9-inch screen like the N9.

Microsoft will only officially say that Marini has left the company under company rules against divulging confidential information in online media. Sources speaking to GeekWire, however, revealed that Marini had voluntarily quit after understanding that he would otherwise be fired.

The company has at times been infamous for wanting to publicly reveal much of its product strategy early and taking a relaxed approach to leaks. Lately, however, it has been clamping down on leaks. Windows 8 betas pre-Build were different outside of Microsoft than in and hid the Metro interface for third-party developers. Nokia doesn't have many secrets left for its phone but is expected to only show its first Windows Phone at its own Nokia World event in October.
