Valve apparently prototyped Half-Life 3 as an RTS

During a recent Game Informer podcast (via Game Rant), executive editor Andrew Reiner revealed that when he was trying to get the scoop on the development status of Half-Life 3, one of his sources who was allegedly involved in the project told him that Valve had been prototyping various iterations of the game, and that at one point in time, Valve even toyed with the idea of making the game an RTS.

Like we said, the Half-Life franchise and the mods that it spawned have pretty much been all FPS titles, so for Valve to make the switch to RTS is very wild as it would present a completely different style of gameplay, one that we’re not sure would have been well-received by the community, we think.

It is unclear as to what the status of the game is right now, but apparently Half-Life 3 has been in the works since 2004, making it one of the most hyped titles that may or may not even exist. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but what do you guys think of an RTS Half-Life 3?
